The 2010 BNI Echo Summer BBQ took place on Saturday 14th August...and what a great event it was! The theme was ‘Country & Western’ and everyone got into the theme from wearing jeans and checked shirts to a full cowboy outfit!

The work that our Events Co-ordinator Pam Eastwood and her BBQ team of Diane Gray, David Watt, Jan Park and our host Allan & Angela Milne ensured that fun was had by all. The two BBQs,manned by Allan and Magnus were in constant action from 2.00 pm ‘till 1.00am on Sunday morning!!! A variety of ‘meat’ and ‘meat free’ food was available along with salads and a GREAT selection of desserts so no one went home hungry and with ‘Country and Western’ music being played all day there was a fantastic atmosphere. Magnus Brown was once again our Petanque (French Boules) organiser, ensuring fair play.

With over 50 attendees the competition was very fierce with some very skilful play culminating in the eventual champion slot being taken by Craig Falconer.

At 3.30 the long awaited duck race started which was run in heats due to the 100s of ducks which had been sold. Allan and David once again donned their wellies to catch the heat winners, ensure that not too many ducks escaped capture. Everyone lined the bank of the burn to witness the spectacle (hoping to see either Allan or David taking an unexpected plunge), cheering on their own ducks. The cry “come on my ducky” was heard amongst all the cheering with the eventual winners being 1.Craig Falconer, 2. Larry Duncan and 3. Brian Mackenzie. Many thanks to all who generously ‘sponsored’ a duck and thankfully the boys both emerged from the water dry as a bone!

The children were far from being forgotten with a treasure hunt and a competition to ‘guess the chicken’s names’ (won by Stuart Eddie) along with other games and face painting. The raffle was held at 5pm and the prizes which had been generously donated by members were well spread out between members, friends and family.

The ‘best dressed cowboy and cow girl’ competition ended with the eventual winners being, for the adults, Ron Murdoch and Brenda Anderson and for the young cowboy, jointly Finlay Watt and Finlay Purkiss and the cowgirl Kirsten West. The Membership Committee would like to extend their thanks to Pam and her team, Joe and to Allan and Angela Milne for again opening their home up to members. The ethos of BNI is teamwork, and there is no doubt that this made the 2010 BBQ a huge success.

A big thanks must go to MIDAS Financial Solutions for donating all the Alcoholic Drinks for the event. Very much appreciated by all memebers. THANK YOU!

See you all in 2011!
