BNI ECHO COMPLETE THE GORDON WAY

The 2009 annual BNI ECHO BBQ was held this year in the rural location of Tullynessle, near Alford in the garden of BNI member Allan Milne and his wife Angela. The scene was set for a damp event, however luck was with us and the sun shone all afternoon. Jan Park and David Watt, the event co-ordinators, did a fantastic job arranging events to keep everyone amused for the whole day, irrespective of age.

For the children there was a tent set up for painting and colouring, a crèche for the very young. For the slightly older children there was a treasure hunt and lots more. For the adults there was a Petanque (French Bouls) competition, a nine hole putting course with exciting and pertinent hole names such as  Chip away, DJ’s hole, Stand and tan, Pam’s putt and Hudson’s howler all relating to some BNI members, their businesses and activities!! The competition for the Petanque was furious with the eventual winner being Avi Crawley, who soundly saw off all comers!! Well done to Avi..... better luck next time boys!

The Duck Race

In was very tense as it was run in heats due to the generosity of the duck purchasers and the large number of ducks competing. David and Allan donned their wellies with only a few ducks evading their net. To great applause the race finished with the eventual winner being 1st, Sid Grant, 2nd Victoria Drysdale and third Leanna Fernandez. Many thanks to all who contributed! A separate ‘fun’ race was held for the children.

The BBQ was fired up by Allan at 2pm (with Marie-Lu Dunk shouting the orders) and even with a number of helpers the BBQ was red hot and was constantly cooking to feed 40+ people and continued cooking ‘till early evening, with the stragglers heading off home at midnight. With all the drink and food on hand no one could have gone home hungry or dry.

Many thanks to Jan’s sister for giving up her day to help supervise the children and to Jan and David for their fantastic baking, salads, sweets.........the list just goes on and on!!

Team work, which is the strength of BNI, was the order of the day, and there can be no doubt that all who were involved and attended contributed to a fantastic day.

On behalf of the ECHO, our Chapter Director Graham Hudson, gave warm thanks to Allan and Angela for opening their garden for the day and to David and Jan for the tremendous work they put in to the day........................roll on 2010.
